About

This 143-mile ride is a one-of-a-kind experience, traveling through every region of the Bay Area. Meeting on the Second Saturday of September every year and starting at the Ferry Building in San Francisco, riders visit the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay, and Peninsula, and finish back in SF at the Ferry Building. All proceeds go to the Alameda Food Bank.

Strava Route

Please arrive at 6am if you can. The first BART train from the East Bay arrives at 6:29am, and we will wait for folks on that train. We roll out at 645am sharp starting (and ending) at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. There will be group stops at the Oakland Whole Foods, Fremont Lucky’s, Cupertino Whole Foods, and Woodside Robert’s Market.

You don’t have to ride the whole 143 miles! Many people join for only Section One (glorious morning ride – you may decide to continue!) or Section Four (join us for a celebratory well-earned burger and beer at Gott’s Roadside at the SF Ferry Building!). The ride passes several public transit stations, including MacArthur BART (~40 miles), Warm Spring BART (~75 miles), and Santa Clara Caltrain (~90 miles).

SUPPORT AND GEAR:

This ride is lightly supported, but generally, each rider is responsible carrying for his/her/their own food, water, and gear. While we will have organized stops at the grocery stores listed above where you can use the restroom and buy additional provisions, there are no rest stations. We will have one/a few SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles carrying additional calories, hydration, and cycling gear and which can rescue a rider in distress, should the need arise.

All of that being said, we welcome riders of all abilities and experience levels! Please reach out to info@livethebay.org if you have questions.
