$4 to $20 per person40 to 60 minBikes: Yes

Step by step

  1. 1
Walk to 19th St Oakland BART

0.3 miles, about 5 minutes from the Sprouts finish. Head west on 21st, then south on Broadway.

  2. 2
    Board a westbound train

Yellow line (toward Antioch/SFO is wrong direction; take SFO/Millbrae) or Blue line (Daly City). Both cross the Bay.

  3. 3
    Get off at Embarcadero

About 15 minutes from 19th St. Closest Muni and rideshare options to the Presidio.

  4. 4
    Connect to the Presidio

Lyft or Uber from Embarcadero: ~$15, ~15 min. Or Muni 30 Stockton + walk: ~45 min. Or bike along the Embarcadero through the Marina: ~5 miles.

Pros

  • Always running on Saturdays, no schedule juggling
  • Bikes welcome on weekends with no restrictions
  • Cheapest motorized option for a solo rider

Watch outs

  • !BART doesn't actually get you to the Presidio, you still need a connection
  • !Crowded if you hit a Giants or Warriors game
Best for: Solo riders or pairs who want the fastest reasonable trip back.

SF Bay Ferry

Most scenic

Easy 1.5-mile ride from the finish to Jack London Square, ferry across to the SF Ferry Building, then bike or Muni into the Presidio.

$9 to $25 per person60 to 90 minBikes: Yes

Step by step

  1. 1
    Bike to Jack London Square

1.5 miles, about 10 minutes from Sprouts. Flat the whole way along Webster and Broadway.

Weekend departures roughly every 60 to 90 minutes. Bikes ride free. 30-minute crossing.

  3. 3
    Arrive at SF Ferry Building

Embarcadero / Market St. Bike racks and Muni at the door.

  4. 4
    Get to the Presidio

Bike along the Embarcadero through Fisherman's Wharf and Marina: 5 miles, mostly flat, very scenic. Or Lyft/Uber: ~$18, ~15 min.

Pros

  • No bike disassembly, no rack drama, no time pressure
  • Genuinely one of the prettiest ways to see the Bay
  • Lets you decompress after the ride

Watch outs

  • !Departures are infrequent on weekends, check the schedule first
  • !Slower than BART end-to-end
Best for: Riders who want to soak in the view and aren't in a hurry.

Uber XL / Lyft XL

Best for groups

Split an XL across 4 to 6 riders for a one-shot 30-minute trip across the Bay Bridge. Best if you're NOT bringing bikes back.

$10 to $25 per person30 to 45 minBikes: Limited

Step by step

  1. 1
Open Uber or Lyft, set pickup to Sprouts

2100 Webster St, Oakland. Choose XL (Uber) or XL (Lyft) for 4 to 6 passengers.

  2. 2
Drop pin at Sports Basement Presidio

610 Old Mason St. Most drivers will park on Mason St in front.

  3. 3
    Bridge across the Bay Bridge

30 to 45 min depending on traffic. Weekend Bay Bridge toll is included in the fare.

Pros

  • Cheapest per-person if you've got 4+ riders
  • Door-to-door, no schedule, no transfer

Watch outs

  • !Bikes are a problem. Standard XL fits passengers, not 4 assembled bikes. Plan to have bikes go via ferry or BART, or use a pickup truck friend.
  • !Surge pricing on a Saturday afternoon can double the cost
Best for: A group of 4 to 6 riders, no bikes, who want zero logistics.

AC Transit + Muni

Cheapest

Catch a transbay AC Transit bus from downtown Oakland to the Salesforce Transit Center in SF, then Muni 28 toward the Presidio.

$6 to $9 per person70 to 100 minBikes: Limited

Step by step

  1. 1
Walk to a downtown Oakland transbay stop

About 10 to 15 minutes from Sprouts. The F line stops along Broadway in downtown Oakland.

  2. 2
Take the F line (or similar) to Salesforce Transit Center

Weekend frequency is 30 to 60 minutes, so check 511.org first. ~45-minute ride.

  3. 3
    Connect to Muni

Muni 28 or 30 buses go toward the Marina and Presidio. Or Lyft from Salesforce Transit Center: ~$18, ~15 min.

Pros

  • Cheapest motorized option
  • No transfers if you time the Muni right

Watch outs

  • !Limited weekend frequency, can leave you waiting
  • !Bus bike racks hold 2 to 3 bikes, first-come
  • !Longest end-to-end time
Best for: Budget-conscious riders who don't mind a longer day.

Friend pickup

Pre-arrange a friend or partner with an SUV or pickup to grab you (and your bike) at the finish. Reliable and bike-friendly.

Free to ~$15 (toll + gas) per person30 to 45 minBikes: Yes

Step by step

  1. 1
    Schedule before ride day

Give them the finish address and an ETA window (35-mile finishers usually roll in around 11am to 2pm).

  2. 2
Text when you're 15 minutes out

So they can leave home and meet you at the curb instead of circling.

  3. 3
Bay Bridge back to the Presidio

Saturday weekend toll is about $8. Park on Mason St in front of Sports Basement.

Pros

  • Most reliable for bikes
  • No transfers, no surge, no schedule
  • You get to debrief the ride with a friend

Watch outs

  • !Requires a willing friend with an SUV or pickup
Best for: Riders with a support person already in their plans.

Pedal back

Some riders ride back the same way they came. Adds ~35 miles to your day. Only attempt if you've trained for it.

Free per person3 to 4 hoursBikes: Yes

Step by step

  1. 1
    Reverse the 35-mile route

Sprouts Oakland back across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, through Marin, over the Golden Gate, back to the Presidio.

  2. 2
    Or take a flatter alternate

Bay Trail along the East Bay shoreline gets you back to Berkeley/Albany, then ferry from Berkeley Marina or AC Transit + Muni back across.

Pros

  • Free, no logistics
  • Doubles your day if that's what you came for

Watch outs

  • !You just rode 35 miles, you're tired
  • !Adds 3+ hours to your day
  • !Not for first-time century riders
Best for: Strong riders intentionally doubling their day for training or for fun.

Tips from past finishers

Plan before you ride

Bookmark this page or save the option you plan to use to your phone before ride day. Bay Area cell coverage at the finish is usually fine, but you don't want to be googling "ferry schedule" while standing in a parking lot tired and hungry.

Mix and match if you have a bike

Bikes are easiest on ferries and weekend BART. They're hardest in rideshares. A common pattern: friends with bikes take the ferry while friends without bikes split an Uber XL. Meet at Sports Basement.

Group buy a ride together

Four riders splitting an Uber XL is about $15 a head. Six riders splitting an Uber XL is about $10 a head. If you finished the 35 with a crew, just split the fare and go.

BART weekend bike rules are friendly

On Saturdays and Sundays bikes ride free on every train, no time restrictions, no required cars. You can roll right on.

After-party first

Whatever you do, the after-party at Sports Basement Presidio is your reward. Eat, hang out with the crew, then start the return trip when you're recharged.

Still picking your route?

The 35-mile route finishes in Oakland. The 135-mile route brings you all the way back to the Presidio on your bike. Same start, same registration, decide on the day.
